The 2017 St. Maarten Carnival celebrations was indeed a show of experiencing life, a reflection of their slogan this year. It has now reached its high point on July 01st when the Grand Carnival Costumes Parade took to the streets of Philipsburg on Monday, displaying its splendor and colors. It’s been judged by many to be one of the biggest and longest in recent times.
It is customary that revelers from Curacao, Guadeloupe, our neighbors French St. Martin and other countries in the region, will save their costumes from their own Carnival celebrations to be a part of the St. Maarten Grand Carnival Parade each year. It is worth mentioning that with the return of the queen of carnival and her Rio Productions, Brenda Wathey’s version and presentation of “Secrets” dominated the procession as onlookers awaits the culmination of the show of Troupes to determine how good it was. The inclusion of Secrets, after the absence of Rio Productions in the Grand parade for several years, helped to give the Carnival a spectacle served as the Icing on the cake when it comes to the tail end of the Parade. That doesn’t take away from the other Troupes like e360 Production unleashing wild Life Safari, playing their part as well in the middle, to make this year’s Carnival Parade the success it was. Photographers had a field day Monday capturing the sights and scenes of the colorful display. Some of the troupes graciously assembled for the cameras taking group pictures and get right back to playing mass.. The Images tells the story. Go to my gallery on this website for more pics.
